A Senior Consultant with Targeted
Leadership, J. Chris Coxon most recently served as the Deputy
Superintendent for Teaching and Learning of the Boston Public Schools.
Under his leadership, the district undertook several system wide
initiatives in high school renewal, early childhood education, and
professional development. The focus of his work has been on systemic
district office reform in order to support school based initiatives.
He has worked closely with private foundations, institutions of higher
education, and the business sector to coalesce resources around key
instructional initiatives of the district. During his tenure, the
district was named a finalist for the Broad Prize in Public Education
four consecutive years and most recently won it in 2006.
Prior to coming to Boston, Mr. Coxon served as a teacher, district
office administrator, and elementary school principal with the
Department of Defense Schools in Puerto Rico. He has been a member of
several boards and presented at several conferences and panels on
district wide reform. He is a doctoral candidate at Harvard
University’s Urban Superintendents Program.
